Wait on The Anointing

Tapping Into The Anointing

Acts 10:38(NKJV) - How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Luke 3:21-22(NKJV) - When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

Jesus Christ is The Anointed One! Hence, we can't have a study of The Anointing and not spend significant time on the life of Jesus. Do you know that The Anointing doesn't just creep up on an individual? There is a specific moment in time when someone receives The Anointing. In The Old Testament this moment was many times signified by the application of oil. However, even though the process changed in The New Testament the moment still remained.

This is Part Two of our new series on The Anointing. It's a continuation from Part One - "The Heart of The Anointing". Many of us in The Church refer to The Anointing quite often but don't fully understand it. So in this blog series we will search the scriptures for some clarity.

In Luke 3:21-22 something fascinating happened. When Jesus came out of the water after His baptism The Spirit of The Lord rested upon Him. With that, He received The Anointing to carry out God's Will on the earth. Something changed in His life from that instant. How can we be so sure? Let's follow the story.

Tapping Into The Anointing

Luke 4:1(NKJV) - Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

The next time we see Jesus following His baptism He is described as being filled with The Holy Spirit. Also, The Spirit leads him to the wilderness where He fasts for forty days and is tempted of the devil. After He puts a "beat-down" on the devil the next time we see Jesus He confirms exactly what we suspect. Something special happened at His baptism. He received The Anointing!

Luke 4:14-21(NKJV) - Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. 15 And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. 16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” 20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Do you know that Jesus didn't start His public ministry until He was anointed at His baptism? It was The Anointing He received which empowered Him to turn the world upside down in three years. Jesus did not step out on His own into the ministry. He waited for The Holy Spirit to rest upon Him. Just like David was baptized in oil in 1 Samuel 16:12-13 before The Spirit of The Lord came upon Him Jesus was baptized in The River Jordan.

Wait on The Anointing

After three years of anointed ministry it was time for Jesus to return to heaven. However, He continued the pattern by giving His disciples some specific instructions which would result in them receiving a baptism of their own. It was at that baptism that they also received The Anointing!

Luke 24:49(NKJV) - Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Acts 1:8-9(NKJV) - But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

Jesus was clear. He told His disciples to follow His example. They were not to make a move until The Holy Spirit came upon them. There were things they would be able to do after they received The Anointing that they could not do before.

This is an important lesson for all of us. Do not step out to do anything for The Lord until you are anointed to do so. There is a specific moment in time when The Holy Spirit will rest upon you for a specific task. From that moment on you will be able to do what was impossible before.

If you step out before your time you will be like Moses the first time he tried to save Israel in Exodus 2. He ended up killing a man and getting run out of Egypt. However, in Exodus 3&4 God anointed him and sent him back to Egypt. What he could not do in his own power in Exodus 2 became a smashing success after he received The Anointing.

Romans 10:15(NKJV) - And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

In the words of a prominent Atlanta pastor, "Are you a sent one or a went one?" Wait on The Anointing! We'll continue from here tomorrow.

The Heart of The Anointing

The Heart of The Anointing

1 Samuel 16:6-7,12-13(KJV) -When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the LORD’s anointed!” But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”..... So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the LORD said, “This is the one; anoint him.” So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

What does it mean to be anointed by God? Is it the same thing as being gifted? Have you ever thought about that? I have. In fact, there was a season in my life when I was totally confused about it. I once heard a popular gospel artiste introduced on a live CD recording as one of the most anointed men in all of gospel music. Immediately, The Lord told me that there is a difference between operating in a powerful gift and walking in a powerful anointing.

God said that the gospel artiste in question was indeed gifted but sometimes people confused that with the anointing on his life. Several years later he was in the middle of a major scandal after admitting his choice to pursue a homosexual lifestyle. He still continued to produce music of the same quality but his impact was lost. As The Lord said, he was still gifted but he was no longer anointed.

Romans 11:29(NLT) - For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.

The Greek word used here for gifts is cavrisma which means; a favour with which one receives without any merit of his own; grace or gifts denoting extraordinary powers, distinguishing certain Christians and enabling them to serve the church of Christ, the reception of which is due to the power of divine grace operating on their souls by the Holy Spirit.

God's gifts and His call are given without any regard for a person's character. Regardless of your relationship with God you already have specific gifts that enable you to fulfill His purpose for your life. However, what you do with those gifts is your choice. Like many people do right now, you can abuse God-given gifts and use them to do whatever you want to do.

You were born with those gifts and if necessary, you will die with them. You can live in sin and go to hell with those gifts. Why? You are gifted in spite of your character. You don't qualify for gifts. They are freely given by God to whomever He chooses. They will never be withdrawn. So the presence or absence of gifts cannot be a reflection of one's relationship with God. On the other hand, the anointing is completely different.

1 John 2:27(KJV) - But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

So what is the anointing?

The Greek word used here is chrisma (khris'-mah) which means an unguent or smearing, i.e. (figuratively) the special endowment ("chrism") of the Holy Spirit:

The Heart of The Anointing

The anointing is not something God gives to men like a gift. It's the residue of The Holy Spirit when He rests upon someone. In 1 Samuel 16:12-13, immediately after Samuel anointed David something specific happened. The Holy Spirit rested upon him. The oil itself meant nothing. It wasn't about the oil. It was about The Spirit of The Lord resting on the man whom God told the prophet to smear with the oil. Hence, the oil was just a sign that represented God's choice for His Spirit.

In 1 John 2:27 those who are anointed are instructed to abide in God. Pay close attention to that because there is something important there.

People have to qualify for the anointing. In 1 Samuel 16:6-7 God made it clear to Samuel that there was one specific criterion He used for awarding the anointing. He looked at a man's heart. Unlike His free distribution of gifts He did not take lightly the character of the person upon whom would receive His anointing. How can I be so sure? The same way God gave His anointing to men who qualified, He took it away from those who did not. If the anointing was the same as gifts, The Bible would contradict itself. Gifts are given without repentance. The anointing is given and is taken away.

The Heart of The Anointing

1 Samuel 15:1, 10-11, 20-23(NLT) - One day Samuel said to Saul, “It was the LORD who told me to anoint you as king of his people, Israel. Now listen to this message from the LORD!... Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the LORD all night....But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”

1 Samuel 16:1,14 (NLT) - Now the LORD said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.”.... Now the Spirit of the LORD had left Saul, and the LORD sent a tormenting spirit that filled him with depression and fear.

Do you know that at one time Saul was God's anointed? Do you also know that the time came when he no longer qualified to be God's anointed? When Saul's character fell below God's standard God took His Spirit off of Saul and with it went the anointing to be king. This is a deeply personal message because I've seen this happen. God's gifts are free and are ours to keep but His anointing comes with a very high price. It's a privilege to be God's anointed. It's not something to be taken lightly.

Do you have the heart for The Anointing? Think about that today. We'll continue from here tomorrow.

An Introduction To The Supernatural

There are two realms in simultaneous existence. One is visible. One is invisible. One is temporary. One is eternal. One is natural. One is supernatural.

Coded Messages

Coded Messages

1 Corinthians 14:2, 14(NKJV) - For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.... For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Coded messages to God. That's one way to describe tongues. It's when your body and soul take a step back so that your spirit can talk directly to God. You may not understand what you're saying but God does and that's what really matters. In the spirit the limitations of time and space do not exist. In the spirit, with no inside information, you can pray for things taking place in your vicinity, far away or even in the future. When you pray in tongues you pray for God's agenda.

This is the seventh message in our series, "Seeing The Invisible." It's a continuation from Part Six, "The Mystery of Tongues". Join us as we journey into the spirit realm where important things are taking place which we cannot see.

Coded Messages

Acts 2:1-4(NKJV) - When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, nine spiritual gifts are listed which are given to people as The Holy Spirit desires. However, the first gift offered by The Holy Spirit at the birth of The Church in Acts 2 was tongues. Without question, by The Law of First Mention, since it was not anyone but God's choice to do so, the gift of tongues must be very important. It is true that the gift of prophesy is definitely more important for communicating to the corporate church body based on 1 Corinthians 14. However, it was only after they spoke in tongues that The Apostle Peter arose and prophesied.

Anyway, I've heard people say that since 1 Corinthians 12 says spiritual gifts are given as The Holy Spirit desires, the gift of tongues is not for everyone. If you get it, you get it. If you don't you don't. So if you don't speak in tongues it must be God's Will that you have a severe disadvantage in your prayer life. You better know lots of scriptures about all kinds of stuff or you will be stuck very often during prayer time. So is it completely true that a Christian without the gift of tongues can do nothing about it since it's God's Will? Let's see!

The Mystery of Tongues

1 Corinthians 14:1(NKJV) - Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

Luke 11:9-14(NKJV) - “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!(emphasis mine)

So not only can you desire spiritual gifts but you can ask God for His Holy Spirit and He will deliver. Luke 11:9-13 has been used in all different types of contexts but Jesus was dealing with one specific request. It was not about money. It was not about healing. It was not about anything like that. Maybe it applies but it was not about any of those. It was concerning a request for The Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit who chose as His first gift to The Church, the gift of tongues. This specific gift unless interpreted serves no other purpose than to elevate our prayer life. So why would God deny such a request? If you are a Christian and you want it, just ask!

1 Corinthians 14:4,18(NKJV) - He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;

The Mystery of Tongues

Ephesians 6:17-18(NKJV) - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

What's praying with all prayer and supplication in The Spirit? A few months ago I was leading a discussion at Coffee Shop Conversations in Atlanta and that's what I was asked by a new Christian convert. Even though it sounds pretty simple it's not for many people. Really, what's the answer? What's all prayer? There is an obvious inference to different types of prayer. However, it cannot be broken down in such a way as to include supplication as one of the types since that's listed separately in the same verse. Hence, that type of grouping doesn't apply. So, I'll ask again. What's all prayer?

This is the sixth message in our series, "Seeing The Invisible." It's a continuation from Part Five, "Angels". Join us as we journey into the spirit realm where important things are taking place which we cannot see.

The Mystery of Tongues

I was stumped when asked to define "all prayer" to a new Christian. I asked The Lord in my heart and waited for an answer. Suddenly, The Lord gave me the most basic types of prayer in a list as simple as 1...2...3.

Type 1 - Calling on Him in a time of need without any scriptural support! For example; "Help me Jesus! Do something, Lord! Save me Jesus! Jesuuuuuuuuuuus!!!"

Type 2 - Praying The Word of God! For example; "Lord, according to Psalm 103, my life is redeemed from destruction and Psalm 91, I have angelic protection and long life. Lord, I need supernatural deliverance now!"

Type 3 - Praying in Tongues

Type 1 is not sophisticated in any way but when it comes from a genuine heart God does hear it. It's especially useful in times of desperation when you can't think straight. However it is prayer at the lowest level. It's a great place to start but at some point you have to graduate to something higher. Then The Lord said that both Types 2 and 3 are considered as praying in The Spirit. Let me explain.

The Mystery of Tongues

John 6:63(NKJV) - It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Ephesians 6:17(KJV) - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Hebrews 4:12(KJV) - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of God is spirit. When you pray The Word of God you are praying in His Spirit. His words are not regular words, they are Spirit Words. They are powerful and make things happen! When you pray and you are loaded with God's Word in your heart, The Spirit of The Lord will bring the correct scriptures to your remembrance. As a result, by His leading, you will be directed to use your Spiritual Sword at the right time for the right situation. You can't just quote random, out of context scriptures but God's Spirit within you will reveal what to pray.

The Mystery of Tongues

Now.. for the best part! Type 3 - Speaking in Tongues.

Acts 2:4(KJV) - And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

1 Corinthians 14:2, 14 - For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.... For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

There's nothing like praying in other tongues. For some strange reason there is a debate in The Church about it. So now let's take this blog in that direction.

We'll continue from here tomorrow...

Hebrews 1:7(NLT) - Regarding the angels, he says, “He sends his angels like the winds, his servants like flames of fire.”

Several years ago while standing on the side of the street after a church service with some college friends an interesting thing happened. A car pulled up right before us and the passenger in the front seat rolled down her window. She motioned for me to come to the car. I can still remember her face. She was unusually beautiful with flawlessly smooth brown skin and a warm smile.

I hesitated and looked around then complied. I walked up to the window and she got straight to the point. She gave me a message from God, smiled then rolled up the window. Not too much small talk, no unnecessary pleasantries. It was exactly what I needed to hear at that time. I had never seen her before and I never saw her again. A few years later God told me who she was. She was an angel.

This is the fifth message in our series, "Seeing The Invisible." It's a continuation from Part Four, "Fight Like Jesus". Join us as we journey into the spirit realm where important things are taking place which we cannot see.

Hebrews 1:13-14(KJV) - But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Do you believe angels exist? Do you believe they actively participate in our daily lives? The real question is: Do you believe The Bible? God assigned angels to every Christian. Those assigned to earth are ministering spirits with heavenly directions for earthly assignments that concern the heirs of salvation.

However, like everything else in God's Kingdom they operate according to a well-ordered system that works to our advantage. So how does this angelic system work?

Psalm 103:20(KJV) - Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

Angels do God's Will. They hearken to the voice of God's Word! The Hebrew word used here for "word" is "dabar" which means spoken word. When God wants to do certain things on the earth, He tells His angels to do it. The Bible gives numerous accounts from Genesis to Revelation of angels being dispatched to aid God's people in that way. Now let's take this to another level. Who else can speak God's Word other than God Himself?

Jeremiah 1:9-10(NLT) - Then the LORD reached out and touched my mouth and said, “Look, I have put my words in your mouth! Today I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow. Others you must build up and plant.”

Romans 10:8(KJV) - But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

God can put His Word in the mouth of His people. Hence, when God's people hear from God and declare what He says, angels spring into action. Why not do that today? As a human being you cannot physically fight a spiritual battle. On the other hand, you can speak God's Word and angels will fight for you. Do you want to know one perfect way to speak God's Word and be right every time?

Acts 2:4(KJV) - And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

1 Corinthians 14:2, 14 - For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.... For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Speak in tongues! If you didn't know. Now you know. Get with it! 🙂

Know Your Enemy

Spiritual Swordfight

2 Corinthians 2:11(KJV) - Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Professional athletes in contact sports watch videotapes of their opponents before every game. They study them carefully. They pick up tendencies that they can exploit. Before they even enter the battle, they understand their opponents.

This is the third message in our series, "Seeing The Invisible." It is a continuation from Part Two, "Supernatural Beings." Join us as we journey into the spirit realm where important things are taking place which we cannot see.

Today we'll study a very important aspect of warfare; "Know Your Enemy."

Matthew 4:1-3(KJV) - 1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (emphasis mine)

Pay close attention to all you just saw in Matthew 4:1-3. When it comes to spiritual warfare, that is the equivalent of watching tape. Like professional athletes, let's study it carefully and pick up tendencies we can exploit. Before we even enter the battle, let's understand our opponent.

How exactly did the devil attack Jesus?

Know Your Enemy

1) He questioned Jesus' identity!

As we discussed in yesterday's blog, "Supernatural Beings" the devil was after Jesus' soul. What do I mean by that? He wanted access to Jesus' mind, will and emotions. He wanted to affect how Jesus was thinking, the decisions He was making and how He felt.

Jesus just finished a 40 day fast and was extremely hungry so the devil knew exactly where He was vulnerable at that time. Hence, the devil tempted Jesus by sarcastically suggesting that He use His supernatural power to satisfy His physical desires. However, the temptation had nothing to do with stones and nothing to do with bread. It was all about Jesus' identity.

Pay close attention to the phrase that I emphasized; "If thou be the Son of God."

By starting with that phrase, the devil questioned Jesus' identity in a moment when He was vulnerable. The devil dared Jesus to prove that He was The Son of God. It was an attempt to coax Jesus to get out of character. The devil wanted to see Jesus defend His position. If Jesus was unsure of Himself, He would have fallen for the trap and tried to prove His worth.

2) He questioned Jesus' relationship with His Father.

In addition, He directly questioned Jesus' identity as it related to His relationship with His Father in heaven. He basically said, "Are you really God's Son or are you not? Hmm, maybe you're Joseph's son or some other man's. Virgin birth whatever! If you are really God's Son then show me your power."

Just like the devil. There he went telling Jesus how The Son of God was supposed to act. He was essentially playing mind games. Now let's study some more tape.

Know Your Enemy

Genesis 3:1-5(KJV) - Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Pay close attention to the enemy's tactics with Eve. There's a lot more in there but for today's study I just want you to focus on verse 5 and see something familiar.

1) The devil questioned Eve's identity.

She was already made in God's image and likeness according to Genesis 1:26-28 so she was already like God. However, in verse 5 he made her question that. He challenged her to disobey God so that she would be like God even though she already was like God. He questioned her identity and messed with her mind. If she wasn't sure she was made in God's image she would fall for the trap.

2) He questioned Eve's relationship with God.

He made her feel like God was holding something back by telling her not to touch The Tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil. He did not tell her the truth which was that God was trying to protect her because that would paint God in a good light. So he planted a lie in her head about God and that messed with her soul. How do we know that? He messed with what she thought about God's benevolence, how she made decisions in response to God's directions and how she felt about God's view of her. Maybe God wasn't as good as He portrayed Himself to be after all? Hmmm...

Know Your Enemy

Now think about your own life. How many times has the enemy used the same tactics to mess with your mind? He attacks when you are vulnerable in the area where you're vulnerable. He says things to make you question your identity. He says things to make you question your relationship with God. He says things to control what you think, the decisions you make and how you feel. He'll tempt you to disobey God to get something God could give you in the first place. He wants you to question God's Love for you. He wants you to question God's plan for your life. If you don't know know you are, he has some suggestions for you. He did it with Eve. He did it with Jesus. He'll do it with you. Watch out!

We'll continue from here next week.

Supernatural Beings

Supernatural Beings

2 Peter 2:11(NLT) - But the angels, who are far greater in power and strength, do not dare to bring from the Lord a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings.

One of the finest tricks of the devil is convincing the world that he doesn't exist - Anonymous

It's amazing how some cynical people question God's existence by pointing to all the evil in the world. I've heard some say; "If there is a loving God why is there so much evil?" However, I have a question of my own; "Have you ever heard of the devil?"

This is the second message in our new series, "Seeing The Invisible." Join us as we journey into the spirit realm where important things are taking place which we cannot see.

Ephesians 6:11-12(NLT) - Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Supernatural Beings

Human enemies are merely agents of misdirection. They are sent along your path to distract you from your real enemies. While they draw away your attention, the real enemies of your soul remains unchecked. The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 6:11-12 that our war is never against human beings. It is not against wicked human beings. It is not against selfish human beings. It is not against violent human beings. It doesn't matter. If you can see them with your natural eyes you are looking in the wrong direction.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6(NKJV) - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. (emphasis mine)

Knowledge is not power. It's potential power. Applied knowledge is power. - Darren Hardy, Publisher & Editorial Director of Success Magazine

It's great to know that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. It's also great to know that they are mighty. However, unless we can identify them, understand how they operate and then actually use them none of that power can help us. So what are these weapons? Also, why does the scripture say these spiritual weapons are primarily for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments, misinformation about God, stray thoughts and disobedience? What kind of spiritual warfare is that?

Knowing God Through His Word

Ephesians 6:17(NKJV) - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Your spiritual weapon is The Word of God. Now how exactly can words be used to fight a war? Am I supposed to believe that I can just say something and defeat an enemy? What kind of battle is that? Also, it's not a coincidence that the helmet of salvation is mentioned in the same verse. Why did The Bible say to protect your head and fight with words?

Hebrews 4:12(NKJV) - For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (emphasis mine)

Take a look at Hebrews 4:12. Pay close attention to a certain word that I emphasize. It's the word, "thoughts."

The primary battleground is your soul. Every time the devil and his forces attack they are after something priceless; your soul. Why your soul? Contained within your soul are your mind, will and emotions. That's right. They want to control how you think, the decisions you make and how you feel. They want to control your soul. When they can influence your soul, they can control you. When they can control you, they've won the battle.

Psalm 143:3(NKJV) - For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in darkness, Like those who have long been dead.

God gave you one weapon to win the battle for your soul. It's The Word of God and it has the power to wage war for your mind, will and emotions. When used correctly, it can protect how you think, the decisions you make and how you feel. It's time to fight back. It's time to dominate the battle for your soul. We'll continue from here tomorrow.
