Beware of Time-Stealers

Beware of Time-Stealers

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. - Hebrews 12:1-2(AMP)

Jesus had perseverance. He did what needed to be done regardless of what was going on around him. The same could be said of Apostle Paul who modeled his life after Jesus and encouraged us all to do the same in Hebrews 12:1-2. After laying out the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11, he started Hebrews 12 with a challenge to the Body of Christ. While all those faithful saints who went before us, look down from heaven as witnesses, we must finish the race of life that God set before us with a singular focus on Jesus Christ. Along the way, we will have short-term, mid-term and long-term goals we need to accomplish to get there.

I call distractions time-stealers. They show up at the most inconvenient times to steal our time. Like an NFL running back or rugby player, we must put our heads down, square our shoulders and push forward through everything that tries to stop us. Don’t let distractions steal your time for good, reclaim it before it’s too late. When you fix your eyes on Jesus and commit to complete what He wants you to do, don’t stop until you’re finished. There will always be something else you could be doing with your time. There will always be important things left to do. When you finish what’s most important, you can move on to what’s next. Don’t falter or stumble, persevere until you see with your own eyes the results of what you’ve been working toward. Take control of the time you have. Reclaim it!
