Times Are Changing

Times Are Changing

Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him. “I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.” - Daniel 2:20-23(NKJV)

The ability to clearly discern the wisdom and might of God is one of the most valuable gifts you could ever receive from God. With so many voices speaking contradicting versions of the truth, it’s difficult to know who or what to believe. Fortunately, Daniel was gifted by God with the insight he needed right on time. God chose to reveal deep and secret things to him, and it opened the door for him to provide value to kings for the rest of his life. I believe that God wants to do the same thing for us. What you have in your hand is the result of God opening the scriptures and shining His light on some dark areas of our understanding. As you read these words expect The Lord to illuminate your mind with deep truths that will leave an indelible mark on your psyche.

Yet, before this book could have been released, the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the world and changed everything. While the health impacts became increasingly evident, people across the globe were introduced to the concept of social (physical) distancing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). With a plethora of stay-at-home orders by local jurisdictions, many of us were forced to rethink how we spend our time. We could not go to our work-places. We had to close the doors of our churches. We cancelled our vacations. We cancelled all social events. We had one option; stay home. It’s like God changed the times and seasons we were living in and we walked into a dimension of our existence we had never experienced before.

What started as one of the busiest and potentially most productive years of our generation suddenly ground to a halt. People who never had any free time to do anything, but sleep, eat and work had gaping holes in their calendars. It’s like the earth stopped moving and even though the clock kept ticking, it sure didn’t feel like it. People struggled to reconcile the experience of their new reality. So much so, that many lamented on social media that they did not know what to do with their time. It’s like COVID-19 exposed the truth about how much of our Western society operates. We do so many activities daily that we barely have time to hear our own thoughts. Then, when all that we do is stripped away and we get the time back, we lose our sense of identity. For some reason, what we do with our time is intricately related to who we are. Hopefully, that experience reshaped how people see their time. I know it did for me.
