Ask Donnell: Can Non-Christians Also Go To Heaven?

Ask Donnell: Will Only Christians Go To Heaven?

Here's the final question we received from J.J.;

"The Bible says all things that you love will be in heaven. What if you love a relative that isn't Christian?"

Matthew 7:13-14(NLT) - “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Good question. You have heaven on your mind I see. That's very good. That's the best place to spend eternity. If you ask a random person on the street who believes in the existence of heaven where they will spend eternity they will most likely say heaven. Why? They assume that they have a right to be there. Few people think they deserve hell. Most people believe that they are genuinely good people deep in their hearts and since God knows their hearts, He has a place in heaven for them for that reason. The "good" people go to heaven because they have good hearts. Is that the truth? No, it's not!

Jeremiah 17:9-10(NLT) - “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

Proverbs 21:2(KJV) - Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.

Romans 3:22-24(NLT) - We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

People think they're good in their own eyes but God knows the truth. Their hearts are deceitful and wicked. Nobody is good enough on a natural level for God to accept. We all need Jesus. When God sees a Christian He sees Christ in us. It's Jesus Christ who makes us righteous because He lived a sinless life and died to pay for all of our sins. Therefore, we just have to accept God's plan by choosing Jesus to represent us before The Father. He is our intermediary, intercessor or "go-between". He vouches for us because we're with Him and that's the only way we are acceptable to God.

Let's now address your statement about all things that you love being in heaven. Where exactly in The Bible can I find that? I never heard of it and I just tried to find it with no success. Therefore, since it's also inconsistent with the rest of The Bible I think it's safe to conclude that it's not in there. Our love for something or someone doesn't get them into heaven. Everything you love may not be of God.

John 3:1-7(NKJV) - There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

There are not many roads to heaven. If your family member is not a Christian, earth is the last place the two of you will get a chance to interact because Jesus Christ is the only way into heaven. You must be born again. If you love your family member so much and the person is still alive why not take the responsibility to share the love of Jesus? Don't let the person end up missing out on the eternal joy of life with Jesus.

John 14:6(KJV) - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:10-12(NLT) - Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

People in this world will try to deceive you into believing that there is another way to heaven but there is none. Jesus is the answer! Any other answer is the wrong answer. Give people Jesus. They need Him. They might not know they need Him but they do. Those who rejected Him had no idea who He was. Now they face an uncertain future without options. The best part of their lives was what they experienced on earth because there is nothing else good to experience in hell.

Romans 10:8-10(NKJV) - But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Confess and believe in Jesus. That's how simple it is to enter the family of God. Let's do the best we can to share this simple message of salvation with others. They will thank us for eternity.
