Unlocking The Sevenfold Blessing of The Tithe

Unlocking The Sevenfold Blessing of The Tithe

Malachi 3:10-12(NLT) - Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do, says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe," says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight," says the Lord of Heaven's Armies.

Today is a continuation from yesterday's blog; "Ask Donnell - Does The Tithe Fit Into Our Modern Economy?"

I'm not going to waste your time or mine by making stuff up. I have to tell you the truth. Give 10% of your gross income first then ask questions after! Stay out of doctrinal debates about its relevance and obey God's directions. I've tithed and I've not tithed. In my own life, I have taken up the challenge and put God to the test. During a two year period, while making almost the same amount of money I proved God. Without a doubt, I can testify of a marked difference between the year that I decided not to tithe consistently and the year I got back on track.

Money was so tight that first year that I realized it was impossible to tithe and pay all of my bills. However, what really happened was "the chicken and the egg" effect. Which came first... the chicken or the egg? Money was short so I didn't tithe and because I didn't tithe, money remained short. Then at the end of the year, I was hurting so much financially that I needed a miracle. I decided that I needed God so much that I had to tithe. Guess what happened? When I made the decision, God opened my eyes.

I found the money I needed to tithe out of the same money I was already making.

After one major adjustment in my budget, 10% of my income was free and I started tithing again. The next year was totally different. The struggle was over. With joy, every time I got paid, I took out the tithe and placed it in my local church. I can't explain how much my heart overflowed with satisfaction to be a tither again. Now let me explain how things worked out for me and why it will work for you if you become a tither.

1) The windows of heaven will be opened for you.

When heaven is open over your life, good things start happening. The first time the heavens were opened in Genesis 7:11. God flooded the earth, killing every rebellious person but saving Noah and his family. The second time God we see open heavens was in Deuteronomy 28:12. God promised to rain goodness on His people, blessing all that they do so that they would lend and not borrow. The third time was in 2 Kings 7 as God brought deliverance at the hands of some unlikely heroes. I could continue but you get the point. You want God to open the heavens for you.

2) God will pour out a limitless blessing on your life!

The blessing was first given to Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:22 and enabled them to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth. Unfortunately, they lost it due to disobedience but it returned in the life of Noah in Genesis 9:1. Then God officially gave it to Abraham in Genesis 12 and through Christ, extended it to us in Galatians 3:29. There's one main blessing but many aspects of it. You don't want to limit your life by missing out on the blessing of the tithe. If you think this one only applies to The Old Testament then you should forget about every other blessing in there too.

3) Your crops will be abundant!

I'm not a farmer and it's quite likely that neither are you. However, we all have investments of some type. God promises to ensure that your investments work out well if you're a tither. The year I returned to tithing my financial investments starting turning around. Over a three year span I had lost thousands of dollars in certain investment funds and God gave me an idea. I sold them all and against popular opinion, bought funds which invest heavily in Government bonds. That's a horrible idea when the economy is booming because they go nowhere but the remarkable dividends and consistent increase in value have offset years of losses. The tithe didn't magically make my investments work. They opened up heaven and God blessed me with an idea. I executed the idea and the numbers started looking good.

4) God will guard your crops from insects and disease.

In the middle of a recession, you probably won't be buying many new "big ticket" items. As a result, you need what you already own to last. This is God's promise to the tither. If you give Him 10% of what you earn, He will open heaven, bless you, give you ideas and keep your investments safe. God will tell you which items you own need extended warranties. Sometimes they're a waste of money but other times they're great ideas. In Deuteronomy 29:5, God said that He preserved the clothes and shoes of His people for forty years in the wilderness. Can't He do the same for you in a recession?

5) Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe!

If you tithe, whatever you've invested time and energy into will mature exactly the way it's supposed to. One of the first signs on the recession in The US was the sudden loss of value in people's retirement funds. Some lost much of their life's savings in a matter of months as the stock market plummeted. As a result, retirement was postponed for those who could keep working because they needed the money.

Others were so desperate that they pulled out their 401K plans before they matured and instantly lost at least an additional 30% of their value. Instead of letting panic ruin years of savings, God showed me how to protect my money without pulling it out before maturity. He will do the same for you.

6) Nations will call you blessed!

When people begin to see how well you handle the pressure of a recession you will develop a reputation. While others can't find jobs, God will show you favor. While banks are foreclosing on your neighbor's houses, you will be completely calm. While folks complain about having no money, you will struggle to keep quiet because you don't want to hurt their feelings. Nobody likes a "show-off" but if you have the blessing of God on your life, they will notice. Your decision to tithe might be done in secret but God will reward you openly.

7) Your land will be such a delight.

Are you ready to live delightfully while gloom hangs over the lives of others? Then start by embracing the sevenfold blessing of the tithe. This could be the best season of your life if you let God have control of your money. You don't need to remain stressed out over something that's an easy fix for God. The Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:17 that God richly gives us all things to enjoy. It also says in Romans 8:32 that if God could give up the life of His only Son for you, won't He give you all other things?

In sum, I have argued about the tithe with many people over the years. However, the debate ended when God told me to look at the lives of people and use that to judge the strength of their arguments. Very few of the Christians I've seen argue against the tithe walked in the kind of blessing I desire for my life. However, many of those who agreed with the system God set up had exactly what I was looking for. Which side will you choose? It's a down economy so why don't you look up?
