Is That Really The Anointing?

Is That Really The Anointing?

Today we continue our study from the month of January in the Daily Devotional, "New Every Morning" published out of Trinidad and Tobago by Divine Destiny Worship Centre. For each day of the published devotional we will attempt to elaborate on some of the key points mentioned and/or meditation scriptures.

2 Timothy 4:1-5(KJV) - I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

1 John 4:1(NLT) - Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.

I once watched a popular televangelist preach a message that I will never forget. After just a few minutes I realized that it originated somewhere other than God's heart. However, his charisma and eloquence easily masked that minor detail. For much of his message the crowd was on its feet. Eventually, even I was on my feet too but for a different reason. It was time to turn the TV off. I had enough.

Here's a short quote from "New Every Morning";

The Church is full of all types of interesting characters. Some are genuinely anointed of The Lord while others are not. Also, many times we underestimate people who walk in a powerful anointing and overestimate others who are merely gifted in their particular area of ministry. Because a man can sing, preach, dance or play an instrument does not mean the residue of The Holy Spirit rests upon him. It could just mean that he is naturally gifted. God may have given him the gift and that's about it.
