No Self-Made Success in God's Kingdom; Only God-Made

Success God's Way

Hearing from God every step of the way eliminates pride. You can't take the credit.

As the Scriptures say, "If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord." When people commend themselves, it doesn't count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them. - 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 NLT

Self-made millionaire, self-made mogul and self-made success are badges of honor that are worn in our society. Yet, The Bible says; “Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture,” (Psalms 100:3 KJV). Even if you think it's possible, it is not. You simply can't make yourself.

All of our provision comes from The Lord. There are certain things God refuses to release into the hands of some of us because we refuse to learn this lesson. He knows how we will act when we reach certain levels of success because He knows our hearts. So He keeps us where we are for our own good. The quicker we learn to acknowledge God for all success the easier it is for us to keep advancing.

And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. - Deuteronomy 8:17-18 KJV

I have struggled tremendously in this area and see it as one for continuous personal growth. It's so easy to get caught up in activities and practices that have brought me success in the past because of my mindset. I think like a scientist and look for patterns which are repeatable so that they can give me desired results on a consistent basis.

As soon as I think I have it all figured out and don't need to actively pursue God's wisdom things don't seem to work out the way they used to. It's the most frustrating experience but in some way it's the most rewarding. It's God's mercy which allows me to fail when I put my trust in the conduits through which His blessings flow instead of The Source of The Blessing.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. - James 1:17 KJV

If it's good, it's from God. When you figure that out you'll remember to go to Him for everything. In Luke 15:11-32, Jesus shared a familiar parable we know as “The Prodigal Son”. In it, a young man asks his father for his inheritance and runs off to waste it all. He then falls flat on his face and has to run home. To his surprise, he is forgiven by his father and restored.

The one point I want to emphasize is that the son only ran into problems when he left the covering of his father. He might have had a right to his inheritance but he did not have the wisdom to manage it on his own. Had he remained with his father he would have remained wealthy. However, as soon as his father gave him money he didn't see any need for his father anymore. Within days he was gone.

Sometimes God withholds what we believe is rightfully ours because He wants us to maintain our relationship with Him. His desire is not to keep us from success but to keep us from the complete disappointment of temporary success. If He knows we will not listen to Him after He gives us our inheritance He knows we will eventually fail and lose everything. Hearing from God every step of the way eliminates pride. You can't take the credit.

1 Corinthians 12:12(NLT) - The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.

Develop your Ability to Hear from God for Yourself!

Develop your Ability to Hear from God for Yourself!

God speaks in many different ways. Here are a few examples. He speaks through outward signs. In Judges 6:37-40, Gideon confirmed God's directions by using a fleece of wool. He speaks through other people. The scriptures say; “Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7 NLT).

As we stated before, one sure way to hear from God is through the scriptures themselves. The written word of God is necessary to clear up disputes concerning God's directions. Since He is never confused He won't give you directions that contradict His written word as noted in the following scripture reference.

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. - 2 Peter 1:19-21 NKJV

There are so many ways to hear from God but He only has one plan for your life. So to avoid the confusion caused by competing voices you must be able to hear from God for yourself. Christians have a special advantage because in addition to all of the outward sources of God's voice we can hear Him speaking through the scriptures. We also have another type of confirmation.

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? - 1 Kings 19:11-13 KJV

According to Romans 8:9, The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and if He does not live in you then you are not His. If you are a Christian, even though the voices on the outside may come from The Lord, the still small voice of His Spirit on the inside should always confirm it.

1 Corinthians 12:12(NLT) - The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.

Merry Christmas from The Cracked Door

Isaiah 9:6-7(KJV) - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

On behalf of our team at The Cracked Door Foundation, Angel and I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas. Today is a day for love, giving, family and most importantly, Jesus. Whatever you do, keep your mind focused on what today is all about and enjoy it with your loved ones.

1 Corinthians 12:12(NLT) - The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.

Ask Donnell: Why Should I Repay Evil With Good?

Ask Donnell: Why Should I Repay Evil With Good?

We received the following question from Jabari;

"Hi I am a teenager from Trinidad and I am a covenantor at D.D.W.C. I just read your blog on being kind; and after reading the meditation scripture (Luke 6:27-36) I understand what it entrusts me to do except one thing. Sadly, I was confused when it said to do good to those who hate me and to bless those who curse me. The reason i was confused is because if the one who hates me does evil to me; such as cursing me or any other evil action should I repay the person with good? While in Proverbs 17 it talks about whoever rewards evil for good it will not leave his house. What should i do?"

Great question. The article you're referring to is entitled; "Be Kind; It's Evidence of The Holy Spirit At Work In Your life." It talks about being kind even in the face of opposition. It's a fruit of the spirit that must be manifested in our lives regardless of what anyone else does or doesn't do. God only judges us for what we do and not what anyone else did. So why is it so hard to understand what Jesus was saying in Luke 6:27-36.

In our own strength, our brains cannot wrap themselves around the vastness of God's love, mercy and grace. In fact, the principles of God's Kingdom defy human logic. They contradict natural intelligence and challenge our usual pattern of thinking. Therefore, it's easy to understand your confusion. It probably makes no sense to you how Jesus could ask us to respond to evil with something other than evil. It's just not how a human being would naturally respond.

However, because something comes naturally doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Our natural disposition is based in our sin nature. It is a result of Original Sin which occurred when Adam and Eve disobeyed God's commandments in The Garden of Eden. To correct this, Jesus brought The Kingdom of God to earth and challenged us to live at a much higher level than our sin nature. He then died on the cross, rose again, returned to heaven and sent His Holy Spirit to empower us all to live by the extreme standards of His Kingdom. Let's now take a close look at the scripture under investigation.

Luke 6:27-36(NKJV) - “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

Here's what Jesus said needs to be done according to the standards of His Kingdom; love your enemies, do good to those you hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who spitefully use you, turn the other cheek when assaulted, forgive those who take advantage of you and give to everyone who asks. In other words, do unto others as you would like to be done unto you. Why? Two words; Credit and rewards! Yup, Jesus does nothing without a reason and asks nothing without giving more in return.

In the same passage, Jesus outlines exactly why we should take the high road in every situation. There are spiritual credits and rewards waiting for those who choose the spirit over the flesh. Every action we take is a seed that has a harvest both in this time and for eternity. God will abundantly reward from heaven those who act like Him in the earth by showing kindness to the unthankful and evil and showing mercy to the merciless. Some people call it a "do-good" seed. You do good when your flesh wants to do bad as a seed for a harvest that comes only from God.

Galatians 6:7-10(NKJV) - Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Every time you do good you sow a spiritual seed that will eventually turn into a harvest that you will reap. Therefore, take every opportunity you can to do something good especially in the face of evil being done to you. You get special credit in those situations. Those seeds are special in God's eyes because they are sown in faith under pressure. In God's eyes, all seeds are not created equal. Remember that! If you want a special harvest you have to sow special seeds.

Apostle Paul goes into even more detail.

Romans 12:9-21(NKJV) - Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Ask Donnell: How Can I Repay Evil With Good?

How do you give place for the wrath of God to act on your behalf against your enemies? Don't seek vengeance for yourself. How do you heap coals of fire on your enemy's head? Show love! How do you wage war and overcome evil? Do good! When you sow "do-good" seeds you are actually engaging in spiritual warfare. You are crushing your enemies by showing Godly character in a difficult situation. Your sword is The Word of God. How do you use The Word of God in your situation? Confess it, right? Wrong! You can't just confess it! If you don't live what you confess, what you confess has no power. You have to confess it and live it! Until you live God's Word before your enemies you have not unleashed it's full power. Live The Word of God and watch the power of God back you up and crush your enemy!

Proverbs 17:13(NKJV) - Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house.

Now, let's explain Proverbs 17:13. It actually doesn't contradict what Jesus or Apostle Paul taught. It says that whoever rewards evil for good will face evil forever. In other words, if good is done to you and you respond with evil you bring a curse upon your life. That result should be expected. It's simply the other side of the same coin.

Jesus taught the opposite action. He said that if someone does you evil you should do them good. If you do so, God will give you credit and reward you for it. In other words, you will be blessed. In sum, one action results in a curse and the other results in a blessing. Which one would you choose?

1 Corinthians 12:12(NLT) - The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.

Be Kind; It's Evidence of The Holy Spirit At Work In Your life

Help Someone Else Succeed

Galatians 5:22-23(NLT) - But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Ephesians 4:31-32(KJV) - Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

The Bible instructs us to be kind to one another because it doesn't flow naturally. It's human nature to be selfish and it's much easier to have a bad attitude than to exhibit kindness on a regular basis. Truly kind people are rare treasures in our society. Kindness is just no longer a popular quality in a culture where arrogance and rudeness are celebrated. We don't place good manners at the top of our priority lists unless we're dealing with little children.

The kindness with which you treat people demonstrates to them that you are spiritual. A wise man once told me that people don't care what you know until they know that you care. So it's crucial that people know us as exceptionally kind people if we expect them to listen when we preach the gospel of The Kingdom. In this context, another word for kind is gracious. The same way God extends grace to you, He expects you to extend grace to others.

Meditate on Luke 6:27-36

Collapse of The World's System

Collapse of The World's System

For over two years we have been studying The Book of Revelation at Coffee Shop Conversations in Atlanta, GA on a weekly basis. This week's Thursday night session marks the end of that study. Since we're focused on The Book of Revelation here's an excerpt from my book, Revelation Unplugged.

The World’s System Collapses

Revelation 18:1-3(NLT) - After all this I saw another angel come down from heaven with great authority, and the earth grew bright with his splendor. He gave a mighty shout: "Babylon is fallen—that great city is fallen! She has become a home for demons. She is a hideout for every foul spirit, a hideout for every foul vulture and every foul and dreadful animal. For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of her passionate immorality. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her. Because of her desires for extravagant luxury, the merchants of the world have grown rich."

As I said earlier, Babylon represents a system that will infiltrate the world. It will first masquerade as a religion but is nothing short of the enemy’s attempt to deceive the entire world through secularization. Hence, even though the religious aspect of it will be eventually rejected, it will mutate into the philosophies by which the One World Government operates. When the angel announces the fall of Babylon, it will signal an end to this age of human existence. By enriching those who support his system, the Antichrist will be able to gain the trust of even world leaders. This is why the angel accuses them of committing adultery with her because she helps the business people of the world get rich.

This situation is very close to manifesting itself in our generation. The financial system of this world is falling apart and the time is right for someone to rise up with a solution. The Antichrist will bring peace and prosperity in the middle of the most desperate time in human history. Hence, he will be able to portray himself as a savior worthy of respect and honor. He’ll use the gullibility of desperate human hearts to his advantage. He will be so easy to believe because he’ll fight poverty in third world nations and even bring peace to the Middle East. Nobody in history will compare to him. Once introduced, people will line up to take the mark of the beast because it will give them full access to the system. However, God’s people will reject it.

Revelation 18:4-8(NLT) - Then I heard another voice calling from heaven, "Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her. For her sins are piled as high as heaven, and God remembers her evil deeds. Do to her as she has done to others. Double her penalty for all her evil deeds. She brewed a cup of terror for others, so brew twice as much for her. She glorified herself and lived in luxury, so match it now with torment and sorrow. She boasted in her heart, 'I am queen on my throne. I am no helpless widow, and I have no reason to mourn.' Therefore, these plagues will overtake her in a single day—death and mourning and famine. She will be completely consumed by fire, for the Lord God who judges her is mighty."

God will send prophets to warn His people about this system. These messages will be available through books, radio broadcasts, magazines, television broadcasts, The Internet, calling posts, text message bulletins and any other form of communication available. As Jesus said in Matthew 24:14, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” People will get the opportunity to make informed decisions and many will still choose the pathway of darkness. However, one day, the system will suddenly crash because it’s time will be up. The same way the stock market crashed and many national economies have already come crashing down, this mighty system will hit the ground hard.

In the Old Testament, when God was ready to bring an end to rebellion He told the righteous to get away from the wicked quickly. In Genesis 19:22, He took Lot’s family out of Sodom and Gomorrah before destroying it. In Numbers 16, He told the rest of the Children of Israel to separate themselves from Korah’s family before the earth opened up and swallowed them alive. In Genesis 18:23-25, Abraham demonstrated his understanding of God’s nature by pointing out that He would never choose to destroy the righteous with the wicked. In fact, he said that it is far from God to even consider something like that. This process of separation is also called sanctification.

In the New Testament, one proven method of sanctification is strict obedience to The Word of God. The righteous can separate themselves from the profane by following the instructions of The Bible. As a result, they can keep themselves safe from the negative judgment that will surely come on the world. Jesus said in John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” Paul then left this message for The Church in Ephesians 5:25-27, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

God wants His people to stay completely separate from the world’s system even though it looks successful. It is not in our best interest to even associate with it so the moment we are warned we need to make a clean break. I believe that we will have our own system set up with which we will be able to sustain ourselves during this time. As I said earlier in this book, if God could feed Elijah and cause Isaac’s wells to strike water in the midst of famines, He knows how to take care of His people. Now is the time for all of us to become proficient in The Kingdom of God.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:31-33, “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” The global collapse has been scheduled and it’s just a matter of time before the great separation takes place. The righteous will find solace in the Kingdom of God and the wicked will have nowhere to run. Outside of God’s system there will be no hope and that will bring great sadness upon the earth.

If you live in the Atlanta area and are interested in what The Lord is doing with us, join our mailing list at The Body Church.

Statement of Beliefs:

1. We believe in God as The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (John 1:1, 1 John 5:7)
2. We believe that God put on human flesh as The Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross and rose again. (John 1:14, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
3. We believe that Jesus returned to heaven, sat down at the right hand of The Father and sent The Holy Spirit to earth. (John 16:7, Hebrews 10:12)
4. We believe that if we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead we are saved. (Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9&10)
5. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith. It is a gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

8. We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and all His gifts are as relevant today as they were in The Book of Acts. (Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11)
9. We believe that the greatest commandment is love. (Mark 12:30-31, 1 Corinthians 13:13)
10. We believe that at The Last Trumpet, Jesus Christ will return and we will be caught up to meet Him in the air. (1 Corinthians 15:51-56, 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18)
