Ask Donnell - Do Babies Go To Heaven If They Die?

Do Babies Go To Heaven If They Die?

I received the following question from Fred;

Hi Donnell, I have a Biblical question from you. One of my friends just lost his baby boy after only a few months of life. He was born with a heart defect and spent over half of his short life in the hospital. He was eventually placed in a hospice until he died. Does The Bible assure us that his baby boy has gone to heaven?

Thanks for the question Fred. This is a very difficult question. The scriptures are not as black and white on this topic as we would like them to be. We’ll have to use some reasoning with the scriptures we do have.

1. Even though we are all born into sin there is an age at which children are capable of making the decision to choose between good and evil. Though we do not know when it is, we do know that it exists. Before then, they are not held responsible.

Isaiah 7:16 (KJV) - For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

Deuteronomy 1:39 (KJV) - Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

2. David assumed that one day he would meet his infant son who died. Obviously, his child had not yet made a conscious decision to follow The Lord.

2 Samuel 12:23 (AMP) - But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.

3. Even though salvation is based on the acceptance of Jesus Christ, condemnation is based on the rejection of Jesus Christ. Even though babies cannot accept Jesus, they also cannot reject Him.

John 3:18 (KJV) - He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:36 (KJV) - He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

4. Babies are distinct from intelligent people who never heard of Jesus. Intelligent people have no excuse because God will judge them based on their understanding of Him through nature even if they never heard of Jesus.

Romans 1:18-20(NLT) - But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

5. God calls all babies innocent and because He is just He won't condemn the innocent. Since babies don’t yet understand the difference between right and wrong they can't be held accountable for moral decisions. On the other hand, intelligent people who understand the difference between right and wrong based on the law written in their hearts are not innocent whether or not they heard of Jesus. That's what we call a conscience. Every intelligent human being has one.

1 Corinthians 14:20(NLT) - Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.

Romans 2:14-16(NLT) - Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.

I hope this answers your question. The Bible does have a position on the issue. It just takes a little understanding to get to it. God richly bless you.

Where Are My Prophetic Voices? - God

Isaiah 21:11b(KJV) - ............Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

This is The Word of The Lord!

"Watchmen where are you? Where are my watchmen? Where are my prophetic voices? Where are the ones through whom I can speak to my people on the earth? What are you doing? Did I give you permission to be silent? Have I not anointed you? Have I not given you a message? I can't hear you proclaiming it? What are you doing?"

Ezekiel 33:1-9(NLT) - Once again a message came to me from the Lord: 2 “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman. 3 When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. 4 Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. 5 They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. 6 But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths.’ 7 “Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me. 8 If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. 9 But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.

"The hammer of my judgment is falling and what have you said to warn them? What have done? What have you done? Why did I set you on the wall? Why? Why did I anoint you? Why? What have you done?"

Jeremiah 1:4-10(NLT) - The Lord gave me this message: 5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” 6 “O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” 7 The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. 8 And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” 9 Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said, "Look, I have put my words in your mouth! 10 Today I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow. Others you must build up and plant.”

"Prophets are born, not made. I called you a prophet BEFORE you were born. You did not choose this call. I anointed you a prophet. You did not choose the anointing. Do what I have said. Do what you were born to do. You do not have a choice. Prophesy!"
