The Power of Consistency

The Power of Consistency

Proverbs 20:6(NKJV) - Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man?

Look around. Can you find someone faithful? Many people talk a big talk but when you really need them to be consistent you can't find them. If you find any faithful folks in the Atlanta area tell them we need them at The Body Church. The more consistent people we have the more effective we will be. It's tough to be consistent. That's especially true when it comes to being productive with your time. Human nature is to be emotional and emotions fluctuate. So if we are led by our emotions we cannot be consistent at anything. We'll feel like doing one thing today and something else tomorrow which is the recipe for stagnation and ineffectiveness.

I'm human. Sometimes, I just want to be random... just do whatever I feel like doing... whenever I feel like doing it. Forget the schedule. Forget the responsibilities. Forget the future. Forget what I'm working on. Random people seem to be having so much fun. They live like free-range chickens that drift wherever and whenever the wind blows them. Yet, I know too much to do that. I understand the power of consistency. So, each day I do the same things at the same time with the same intensity regardless of how I feel. Hence, I continually move closer and closer to the fulfillment of my destiny. What about you?

Proverbs 22:29(AMP) - Do you see a man diligent and skillful in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.

Are you diligent and skilful in your business? Many people want to stand before kings but few want to be diligent and skilful to get there. Few want to put in the work. Few want to earn their stripes. They want shortcuts. They want luck. They want someone to do them a favor. They want the hook-up. That's like a student wanting all A's without being willing to study or complete assignments. Or it's like someone who is out of shape wanting to look like a professional athlete without the willingness to eat right and work out. Let that not be said of any of us. We must refuse to be lazy and undisciplined yet expect the rewards that are reserved for the diligent and skilful.

Matthew 24:45-48(NLT) - "A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns.

Consistency is even more important in kingdom business. If we are to grow spiritually, we must be consistent in our communication with The Lord, diligent in our church attendance, disciplined in our time in The Word of God and faithful in our service. Throughout the scriptures, God makes it abundantly clear that He values faithfulness and intends to lavish the faithful with rewards. Can you be counted in that number? Have you been a faithful, sensible servant of God? Have you done what He left you on earth to do? I sincerely hope so. Otherwise, you can get started now.

1 Corinthians 11:31-32(NKJV) - For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

Let today be one of personal reflection. Let this be a time to judge yourself in the privacy of your own thoughts without anyone else being in your business. What is it that you are expecting out of your life? Have you been consistently doing what God requires you to do to achieve it? If yes, then remain faithful because your time of reckoning is approaching and your reward is sure. If not, why are you expecting what you are expecting to happen? It's not going to happen because it's not supposed to happen until you obey God's directions concerning it.

Proverbs 13:4(AMP) - The appetite of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the appetite of the diligent is abundantly supplied.

THE END! 🙂

No Self-Made Success in God's Kingdom; Only God-Made

Success God's Way

Hearing from God every step of the way eliminates pride. You can't take the credit.

As the Scriptures say, "If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord." When people commend themselves, it doesn't count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them. - 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 NLT

Self-made millionaire, self-made mogul and self-made success are badges of honor that are worn in our society. Yet, The Bible says; “Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture,” (Psalms 100:3 KJV). Even if you think it's possible, it is not. You simply can't make yourself.

All of our provision comes from The Lord. There are certain things God refuses to release into the hands of some of us because we refuse to learn this lesson. He knows how we will act when we reach certain levels of success because He knows our hearts. So He keeps us where we are for our own good. The quicker we learn to acknowledge God for all success the easier it is for us to keep advancing.

And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. - Deuteronomy 8:17-18 KJV

I have struggled tremendously in this area and see it as one for continuous personal growth. It's so easy to get caught up in activities and practices that have brought me success in the past because of my mindset. I think like a scientist and look for patterns which are repeatable so that they can give me desired results on a consistent basis.

As soon as I think I have it all figured out and don't need to actively pursue God's wisdom things don't seem to work out the way they used to. It's the most frustrating experience but in some way it's the most rewarding. It's God's mercy which allows me to fail when I put my trust in the conduits through which His blessings flow instead of The Source of The Blessing.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. - James 1:17 KJV

If it's good, it's from God. When you figure that out you'll remember to go to Him for everything. In Luke 15:11-32, Jesus shared a familiar parable we know as “The Prodigal Son”. In it, a young man asks his father for his inheritance and runs off to waste it all. He then falls flat on his face and has to run home. To his surprise, he is forgiven by his father and restored.

The one point I want to emphasize is that the son only ran into problems when he left the covering of his father. He might have had a right to his inheritance but he did not have the wisdom to manage it on his own. Had he remained with his father he would have remained wealthy. However, as soon as his father gave him money he didn't see any need for his father anymore. Within days he was gone.

Sometimes God withholds what we believe is rightfully ours because He wants us to maintain our relationship with Him. His desire is not to keep us from success but to keep us from the complete disappointment of temporary success. If He knows we will not listen to Him after He gives us our inheritance He knows we will eventually fail and lose everything. Hearing from God every step of the way eliminates pride. You can't take the credit.

1 Corinthians 12:12(NLT) - The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.

Success God's Way

Success God's Way

Before we get into a new blog series, today we'll share with you an excerpt from my upcoming book.

Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! - Isaiah 5:21KJV

Do you want to be successful? If your answer is yes, that desire is your first step in the right direction. Even so, there is a huge gap between desire and accomplishment. Desires are shaped by mental images which in turn are created by processed information. In other words, your imagination is an extension of information you have received and you can only truly desire what you can imagine.

Even though there are no tangible limits to your imagination there are perceived limits. If your exposure to information is limited, so are the building blocks of your imagination. As a result, the meaning of the word success is relative and differs greatly from person to person. What one person considers success would not work for another.

So what exactly defines success in your life? Your answer to that question is of utmost importance. It's highly unlikely that you will stumble upon success. Granted, people do sometimes find success in places where they are not looking but they're hardly successful by mistake. If you don't know your intended destination even if you stumble upon it you won't know when you get there.

Let's now analyze the definition of success. The Webster's New World Dictionary gives the basic definitions of success as “a favorable result” and successful as “turning out as was hoped for”. From this perspective, success is measured only by the outcome. It does not matter how the results are achieved. The process is not the priority because it is merely a means to an end.

This understanding of success is illustrated by the popular phrase “all's well that ends well”. It has so shaped Western thought that people are celebrated for achieving desired results by any means necessary. Upon this foundation of success we have built a Western society of schemers, opportunists and treasure-hunters where integrity has been shown the door in exchange for Lady Luck.

In fact, The Webster's New World Dictionary gives a second definition of success as “the gaining of wealth, fame, etc.” With that definition, it reveals the identity of probably the most popular “favorable result” in Western society. As was stated earlier, information shapes mental images which in turn shape desires. Thus, the abundant media coverage of the rich and famous has significantly molded Western society.

It's no longer uncommon for people to create false realities. For some, acceptable wealth-building strategies range from lucky pursuits like gambling to elaborate pyramid schemes and other crafty ventures. Even though it's highly improbable for these methods to consistently create wealth they definitely can. Consequently, many have chosen to follow the advice of one popular American rapper who named his wildly successful album; “Get Rich or Die Trying”.

Also, since success can be measured by fame the new secret to success in places like the United States is to be cast in hot new “reality” shows. Many of which are about as “real” as the imagination of the producers who provide elaborate scripts and contracts of non-disclosure to each cast member. What many believe is the pathway to becoming rich and famous sometimes only leads to infamy.

A system built only on achieving favorable results breeds dishonesty and a lack of integrity. People will lie, cheat or steal to get ahead as long as they can get away with it. Fortunately, The Bible teaches success from a different perspective.

Good Success

Success God's Way

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. - Joshua 1:8 KJV

When success is mentioned in The Bible it is done using the term “good success”. According to The New Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of The Bible, the Hebrew word used for good success is “sakal (pronounced saw-kal')” which means “to be circumspect and hence, intelligent”.

In the Young's Literal Translation, this scripture reads as follows;

the book of this law doth not depart out of thy mouth, and thou hast meditated in it by day and by night, so that thou dost observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then thou dost cause thy way to prosper, and then thou dost act wisely. - Joshua 1:8 YLT

The Bible equates success to wisdom. Good success is not assessed by favorable results alone but by the good decisions which cause the results. This key departure from the current norm is critical. It is not based in luck but reflects a true merit based system with clear criteria. It also solves a major problem with the popular result based definition of success and that's longevity.

Whether the word success is characterized as a favorable result or wealth, fame, etc. any success without wisdom is temporary. Hence, the term; “15 minutes of fame”. Over and over, people rise quickly to the top only to fall even faster. Without any consideration for due process, this type of success does not last.

There are countless horror stories of people who won the lottery, earned huge sums of money through sports and entertainment yet lost it all. The same can be said of purported businessmen who operated elaborate Ponzi schemes while projecting legitimacy. As “luck” would have it, they were eventually discovered. One day they were all hot and the next day they were not.

Here's another illustration of The Biblical perspective;

Wealth [not earned but] won in haste or unjustly or from the production of things for vain or detrimental use [such riches] will dwindle away, but he who gathers little by little will increase [his riches]. - Proverbs 13:11 AMP

Good success is another way of saying lasting success. When your climb to the top is done the right way you stay there. There is no room for hastiness, opportunism, misconduct and vanity in good success. It's not about what you can get away with on your way to the top but how much wisdom you demonstrate as you get there.

When The Bible talks about “he who gathers little by little” it refers to the individual who operates within an ordered system. This individual methodically advances toward the desired goal. In the parable of “the tortoise and the hare”, this person is the tortoise who plods along slowly but eventually passes the hare who bursts out the gate but stops exhausted on the side of the road.

This book was written with that in mind. As you read through these pages you will notice a heavy emphasis on wisdom and process. If you don't know what you're doing and you're not systematically advancing even if by chance you achieve success you won't be able to keep it.

Start The Year Off Right

Start The Year Off Right

Isaiah 43:18-19(KJV) - Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

It's a brand new year and for you it can also be a brand new start. It's time to quit worrying about what went wrong in 2012 and focus on 2013. You can't change anything that took place already. You can only change your future by the decisions you make in your present. God is ready to do a new thing so let go of the old and embrace what's He has for you.

Take a few minutes today to write down a few goals for the year. What do you want to accomplish? Do you have some career goals or maybe academic goals? Maybe you're looking at getting a new job or finally receiving that promotion you've been desiring. Maybe you're considering finishing school or doing better than you've ever done in your current classes.

Do you have some relationship goals? Maybe you're a guy and it's time for pop the question and take it to the next level. Maybe you need to cut a relationship and move on with your life. Do you have some character goals? Maybe you need to address certain character flaws and start doing things right. Maybe you couldn't fix certain issues in 2012 but now it's your time.

Joshua 1:8(KJV) - This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

One of my goals for this year is to spend more time in God's Word because it's the foundation for my success. I'm not sure if this made your list but it should be somewhere near the top. Meditate in God's Word everyday, do what it says, make your way prosperous and have good success in 2013. Set your goals at the beginning of this year and start the year off right.

Wisdom By Association

Proverbs 13:20(KJV) - He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Ask God For Wisdom

James 1:5-8(KJV) - If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Wisdom In God's Word

Psalm 119:97-105(KJV) - O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. 98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. 100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. 101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. 102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. 103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Waking Up To God's Voice

Isaiah 50:4(KJV) - The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

You Can Have The Mind Of Christ

You Can Have The Mind Of Christ

We released our latest video "Supernatural Intelligence" over the weekend. If you have not watched it in its entirety as yet you are missing out. 🙂 This is a continuation from yesterday's message "Answering God's Call".

Philippians 2:5-11(NKJV) - Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The mind of Christ. What is it? Thankfully, the scripture laid it out for us. It's an attitude of humility and meekness. He knew who He was but humbled Himself in obedience to The Father so much that He, the giver of life, actually accepted death. However, He knew what He was doing because His actions pleased The Father and in the end He was greatly exalted. What would that look like in your own life? Do you strive to exhibit meekness or humility like Christ? If so, you can expect similar results.

Luke 14:8-12 New King James Version (NKJV) 8 “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

This is so counter-intuitive. The person who pushes to the front out of pride will be thrown to the back while the person who stays in the background out of humility is called to the front. I know this is true because I've proved it. I'm not ashamed to say that I've been put in the back after pushing to the front and I've been pushed to the front after choosing the back seat.

If I had to choose, guess which one I would prefer? If you said the latter, you are correct. There's not much worse than the walk of shame after you are relegated. You just wish you walked with your own brown paper bag so that you could cover you head. Only a few people notice you walk to the front but everyone sees when you are asked to get up and go to the back.

1 Corinthians 2:9-16(NKJV) - But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

If you have The Holy Spirit living inside of you then you have access to the mind of Christ. Use it and let The Heavenly Father exalt you!

Some people are born smarter than others!
Some have more experience!
Some work much harder!
However, God gives a select few supernatural intelligence! You can be one of them.

Answering God's Call

Answering God's Call

We released our latest video "Supernatural Intelligence" over the weekend. If you have not watched it in its entirety as yet you are missing out. 🙂 This is a continuation from yesterday's message "Your Gifts Are For Kingdom Use".

Matthew 22:14(KJV) - For many are called, but few are chosen.

Do you know what The Lord has called you to do? Have you answered His call? If yes, then welcome to the club. If no, then join us. This life is not for everyone. It's not always convenient. It's not always easy. It's not always popular. However, when you know God has called you to do something and you're doing it, just knowing that you're in His Will is very rewarding. Anyway, let's get down to business.

Isaiah 50:4(KJV) - The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

I have made it my business to wake up every morning and spend time with The Lord. Every morning He is there waiting for me to meet Him for our usual morning rendezvous. I don't say allot but I open His Word and let Him do the talking. It's during these private sessions with The Lord that I receive supernatural intelligence. Mysteries are revealed. Complex ideas are simplified. Answers are received.

What about you? Do you position yourself to receive supernatural wisdom by spending time with The Lord every morning? I hope you do because life is really hard to figure out on your own. There is so much going on especially in the areas of relationships, finances and time management. Lord knows I need to hear from Him DAILY. I'm sure you need to also.

Psalm 27:8(NLT) - My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”

Shhhh! Did you hear that? Yeah, I heard it too. That's what God's voice sounds like when He speaks to your heart. He wants to spend some time with you today. Hopefully, the feeling is mutual. Go ahead, meet with Him. He would love that. He has some wisdom for you. He has the answer you've been waiting for. We'll continue tomorrow. I'll leave you two alone now.
