Who or What's Blocking Your Vision Of The Lord?

Who or What's Blocking Your Vision Of The Lord?

Isaiah 6:1(NKJV) - In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.

According to 2 Chronicles 26, Uzziah became King of Judah at 16 years old. He was a good king during the days of the prophet Zechariah. As a result, The Lord prospered him and gave him victory over his enemies. Unfortunately, when he became very strong his pride got the best of him. He thought he could usurp the authority of the priests and opted to burn incense on the altar of God. While he was in the act, the priest Azariah and eighty other priests confronted him in the temple concerning his transgression. Instead of being repentant, he got angry and God struck him with leprosy. They ran him out of the building and he spent the rest of his life in isolation until he died. Interestingly, it wasn't until the year he died that Isaiah saw The Lord. Maybe it was circumstantial but what if it was not?

Isaiah 6:1-8(NKJV) - In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!" 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts." 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged." 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Not only did Isaiah see The Lord but he also received and responded to his call into the ministry. If there was nothing important about King Uzziah's death taking place just before Prophet Isaiah's heavenly vision of God it would not have been mentioned. Obviously, there was a reason why King Uzziah had to be taken out of the way before Isaiah could have been released to do what God had called him to do. Perhaps, Prophet Isaiah was called by God to operate in a season that began only after King Uzziah's death. That's a fair assertion. Perhaps, King Uzziah's rebellion against God would get in Isaiah's way. Whatever the reason, God had no intentions of showing up to Isaiah with King Uzziah still alive.

Is there a King Uzziah in your life that has to go before God can be free to reveal Himself to you in a whole new way? Perhaps, God recently moved someone out of your way and you can't seem to understand why. What if that person was blocking your vision of The Lord? What if you had to keep looking around that person to see God for yourself because your experience with The Lord did not exist apart from that person? Who is your King Uzziah? Whose shadow falls on you when the light of God shines in your direction?

Is your Uzziah a spouse? Is your entire experience with God tied to that person? If that person ever fails, will you backslide? Is your Uzziah a parent? Are you still worshipping your parent's God? Is your Uzziah a pastor? Can you only see God through the eyes of your pastor and you are unable to see Him for yourself? Who needs to get out of your way so you can see God for yourself? What if your only understanding of God is what someone else has seen and relayed to you causing you to have a third party Christian experience?

On the other hand, perhaps Uzziah is not a person in your life. Perhaps Uzziah is your education. You're just too intelligent to let go of logic and believe God for the ridiculous. Perhaps Uzziah is your denomination. You can't receive certain things clearly depicted in the scriptures because people in your denomination just don't believe that stuff. Perhaps Uzziah is your own pride. You know that God is calling you to something deeper but you don't want to deal with it so you ignore the tug of God on your heart. Hence, you never get to see Him on the level He wants you to.

Matthew 5:8(KJV) - Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Hebrews 12:14-15(KJV) - Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

Last, but certainly not least. Is sin blocking your vision of The Lord? The Lord says that the pure in heart and those who are holy shall see God. You can repent according to 1 John 1:9 and clear your spiritual vision. Jesus died so you can access God without any blockage so don't let any sin get between you two. Nonetheless, maybe it's not your sin that's blocking you, it's the sin of others you continue to associate with. Let's return to the story of Isaiah. I think we may have just stumbled upon the answer to why something or someone was blocking his vision of The Lord during the time of King Uzziah.

Isaiah 6:5-7(KJV) - Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

From the top down, the people of Judah were unclean and it started with King Uzziah. As a result, when Isaiah was confronted with the holiness of God, his own uncleanness was highlighted. In response, God dispatched a seraphim with a live coal from the altar of God to cleanse him. He did all of this BEFORE calling Isaiah into the ministry.

Isaiah 6:8-10(NKJV) - Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." And He said, "Go, and tell this people: 'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.' "Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed."

Once Isaiah was cleansed by God, he was called into the ministry. That's what happened the year that King Uzziah died. God purged Isaiah from the sins of the people he lived among while under King Uzziah's corrupt leadership. So what The Lord is showing us through these scriptures is that your personal holiness and your purity of heart could be corrupted just by your association. With that, comes a limitation of your ability to see God and to accept His calling on your life. In a situation like that, God is left with no choice but to either get those people out of your life or get you out of theirs. They are unwelcome because they are blocking your vision of Him.

So what's the moral of this story? Don't hang around people who lower your level of spirituality and cause you to drop your desire to go deeper in God. Evaluate your relationships and decipher who in your life is helping you see God better. Those people you can keep. Then decipher who is blocking or skewing your clear vision of God. Those people can go. It's time for you to see The Lord high and lifted up. It's time for you to see His angels. It's time for you to see His throne. Maybe King Uzziah is not a person in your life. If so, evaluate everything else in your life and decipher what is helping you see God better and what is not. Keep what's helping you and eliminate what's blocking you. It's time for King Uzziah to get out of the way. God wants you to see Him on a whole other level. Don't you want to see Him too?

The Vision and Mission Of The Body Church

The Body Church

Motto: One Body.... Many Parts... Where Do You Fit? (1 Corinthians 12:12-27)

Vision: We are The Body of Christ, made in His image and shaped in His likeness. We consist of many unique parts but together we are one.

Mission: God has a specific position and function for each person in His Kingdom. The Body has been called to help people discover where they fit and pursue their purpose in Christ. We accomplish our call by presenting and living the gospel of The Kingdom with love, truth and authenticity.

Main Scripture:

1 Corinthians 12:12-27(NKJV)
For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free — and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.
If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?
But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Supporting Scripture:

John 17:14-26(NKJV)
I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

Become A Visionary: See The Future And Own It!

Seeing The Future And Owning It!

The phrase, 20-20, denotes perfect vision. After an eye test, this result signifies the ability to see correctly and is an assurance of the need for no corrective measures. When one has a vision, one is able to develop internal eyes which operate beyond natural limitations like time and space. I operate by the mantra I learned from London mega-church pastor Dr Ramson Mumba, “The man who knows the future owns the future and those who find out after it already happened must pay him a premium for it.”

A visionary sees the future and makes decisions in the present to prepare for it. Take the stock market for instance. Investors who anticipate market trends make transactions at bargain prices long before the stocks look favorable. When the rest of the investment community realizes what's going on they're looking into the past. Clueless, they still rush to join the action on the tail end. Hence, dramatically increasing the value of the stocks which in turn enriches the earliest investors. As soon as Earthlink released its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 1999, my friend and I purchased stock because it was on the cusp of revolutionizing dial-up Internet then sold it due to impatience. Within months, it's value tripled and kept rising.

When Apple in California releases a new product they instantly cause a major upheaval in technology circles. That's because Steve Jobs, the man behind the company was a visionary. If you ever listened carefully to his speeches at each product launch, he sounded more like a philosopher and less like a computer nerd. He saw the future and owned it. With each new version of I-Mac, I-Tunes, IPOD, I-Phone, IPAD, etc. Apple stays a few steps ahead of the competition who have no choice but to copy their technology. Even if the competition can create better products after studying what Apple produces, it doesn't matter. Apple does it first!

Before the social networking explosion took place, Tom started MySpace and Mark started Facebook. I use their first names only because they were just regular guys until they saw the future and did something about it. Now everywhere we turn there's a new social networking site being created. In the early days of this movement, these visionaries had no idea exactly how people would respond. Still, they knew they had to respond to their vision of the future. Now, they have more money than they probably could count and can honestly admit that they have shaped culture.

When computers filled entire rooms and cost as much as heavy machinery, Bill Gates had a vision. It looked crazy at the time but he saw a future with personal computers and software to make them work. Now with a stronghold on the PC software market, millions of Microsoft products sold and billions of dollars later, people finally believe him.

It is not my intention to inspire you to be the next Tom, Mark or Bill. At best you can only be a poor imitation and at worst a complete failure when you attempt to mimic the success of someone else. Visionaries don't spend their entire lives pursuing other people's visions. They don't have that kind of free time. Visionaries are inspired by other visionaries to pursue their own visions.

Become A Visionary: See The Future And Own It!

Introductory Points of Power

1. Everyone has been given a purpose.

Jeremiah 1:4-5(NLT) - The Lord gave me this message: "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations."

Before you were born, God had a purpose for your life and placed it in you while you were in your mother's womb. It doesn't matter what you accomplish in life, until you discover YOUR purpose and carry it out you will never feel fulfilled.

2. Everyone needs to develop a vision.

Proverbs 29:18(KJV) - Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

If you don't have a vision for your life, you will perish. The word used here for perish is the Hebrew word para` (paw-rah') which is also translated as “run wild”, “stumble all over themselves” and “cast off restraint.”

So, let's add the first two points together. God put a purpose within you before you were born and if you are not aware of it you can't develop a true vision for your life. Without a vision, you have no choice but to run wild, stumble over yourself and cast off restraint. In many ways, that is the definition of many in our generation. They live aimlessly. They have no coordination between their actions and their goals. So they go around in circles using up great energy while making limited progress. On the other extreme are those people who set their own goals and pursue them with passion.

Highly motivated people who set personal goals and get them done are accomplished. They are the “go-getters” of society who tend to be defined by their accomplishments. However, until they accomplish God's purpose for their lives they will never have inner fulfillment. Without inner fulfillment, a void remains that highly motivated people try to fill with even more accomplishments. It never works so they end up broken and empty even though they seem to have it all.

What is your vision for the future and what are you doing about it? In this blog I choose to appeal to visionaries or at least, potential visionaries. I cannot inspire the uninspired. I cannot open the eyes of those who have chosen to shut them. I cannot unsettle the person who has chosen to remain settled. In contrast, I can awaken the dream in the discouraged dreamer. I can call forth the vision in the vanquished visionary. I can resurrect the drive for success in the one whose passion has laid dormant.

It is my assignment to deal with the part of the process which comes after the vision is seen. Seeing the future is easy but doing something about it is a big challenge. How many people do you know can talk about big things but keep doing little things? They have great visions but lack initiative. If they accomplish just half of what they talk about they might change history. As you should know, cemeteries are full of bodies which hold unfulfilled dreams and visions. I hope this blog makes it a little more difficult for you to add another one.

By the way, you're invited to join our group of visionaries at the next session of "The Body".

2

Get Your Heart Right

2 Chronicles 16:9(KJV) - For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

God is no respecter of persons but He is a respecter of hearts

Be Patient

Habakkuk 2:2-3(KJV) - And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Big visions take time to develop. Don't rush them.

2

Be Excellent

Proverbs 22:29(KJV) - Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

A reputation of excellence will open doors to people of power

2

Write Your Vision

Habakkuk 2:2(KJV) - And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Proverbs 29:18 -- Without a vision people lack restraint, run wild and stumble all over themselves

A vision helps you to manage your resources including energy, money and especially time.

Time is a non-renewable resource. It cannot be created, only exchanged.
